The War
Last Friday night we had a chance to view the first episode in the new Ken Burns documentary on World War II, The War. Luckily Ken Burns was at the Letterman Digital Arts Center in person to introduce his film and to do a Q&A following the viewing.
His intention with this documentary was to focus on the personal experiences of people from four American cities, and there are no experts speaking about war strategy, the focus is simply on the direct and personal experience.
At times the documentary is hard to watch because of the footage of brutality and war, but Ken Burns strikes a fine balance in presenting difficult subject matter with in depth personal stories that make the experience so much more human.
The 14 hour, 7 part documentary airs on PBS in September, and I can't wait to see the rest.
Comments
I like watching documentaries over hollywood films espically when it comes to war. The most honest stories and feelings come from the faces, actions and words of those who faught it. I can't wait to see it.
