I just wanted to wish all of my fabulous Vox peeps a happy new year! I hope you're having fun tonight! It's been great getting to know all of you. Cheers, salut, salute, salud, and skoll!
How are you ringing in the New Year tonight?
Tonight Ray and I are ringing in the new year by going to Anon Salon's Sea of Dreams party which is conveniently located 3 blocks away from us, yay! Tickets are a little pricey, but this seems to be the best thing going in SF tonight.
Here's a nice little moment from the Sea of Dreams in 2001. Ray and I were inside a jellyfish sculpture!
Show us something sweet.

Today Ray and I are celebrating our fifth wedding anniversary. It's hard to believe that it's 5 years already. We were married two months after 9/11, I had just been laid off from my job, and things were looking pretty grim. Of course, our wedding was the high point of the year for me. I'm so lucky to have a wonderful, caring, and very patient husband. Thank you Ray!
In case you're wondering what's up with the photo to the left, our friends, Tracy, Jennifer, Nicole, and Patch threw a Dia de los Muertos party in our honor a few days before we were married, so of course we had to come as the bride and groom.
Tonight we're celebrating at Farallon, yum. :)
Yay, no rain tonight so I headed over to the huge Day of the Dead parade in the Mission, and ran into Nick and Rebecca. The parade ended up being much larger than exptected, with lots of people drumming, playing music, and dancing. Overall people were in really good spirits and the crowd had a nice friendly energy. You can see the rest of my photos here.
In honor of Vox's launch tomorrow, what's your favorite feature or aspect of Vox?
Okay, I'm a bit biased because I work on Vox, but my absoutely favorite aspect of Vox has to be the wonderful people that I have "met" through Vox. There's too many to name, so just take a look at my Neighborhood to check out some of the fascinating people sharing stories about their lives, friends, and family.
Although I have been blogging since 1999 over at lilia.com, I blogged too infrequently to ever build an audience, and my real life friends never took an interest in my old blog. Since I started blogging on Vox, I have felt a real sense of community that was lacking before. Also, it's just soooooo easy to blog here: adding photos, video, audio, books and collections is a snap, and I don't need to fuss with HTML and CSS. I can change my Vox theme to suit my mood since we now have over 165 themes!
I truly appreciate anyone who reads my Vox, and sincerely wanted to thank you all for being such great people!
If you're looking to hear a good live band, check out The Turn-ons from Seattle tonight at the Makeout Room here in SF. They've played with the Strokes, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and Imperial Teen. My fav song by them is Crystalize, which you can hear here.
Peter Buck from R.E.M. describes them as
The Turn-ons are playing with Clean Prophets and The Otherside starting at 9:00pm at the Makeout Room, 3225 22nd Street, near Mission. Tickets are only $7....simply my favourite new Seattle band. If I said that their sound was a combination of the Velvets, T. Rex and Spiritualized with a dash of Yo La Tengo, it wouldn't do them justice."
