Show us what Mother's Day means.
First of all I wanted to wish a very Happy Mother's Day to all the moms and moms-to-be on Vox! Hopefully you're having a fantastic day and doing something special.
Also, I'd like to thank my mom for being such a great mom who sacrificed so much for us and always did her best to make us happy.
My mother left Chile and arrived here in the Bay Area in the 60s. She couldn't speak a word of English, and didn't even finish grade school. She's a smart cookie, so she enrolled in adult school and took English classes and went to beauty school. She worked as a hair stylist for many years, then met and married my dad. She was a stay-at-home mom until I was 16 when she returned to work as a hair stylist. She's retired now, and living alone now that my dad passed away. I think I inherited my creativity from her--she's chronicled my family's life with photography and has an amazing green thumb. She's a character and brutally honest at time, but that's another reason why I love her!
