How well does your name Google? Who are you up against? (Celebrities, etc.)

What were you doing one year ago today?
Submitted by CassandraMorgan.
Ah, interesting question. Since I'm over thirty, my memory is a bit hazy, so I don't recall the exact events of March 19. Of course I was working at Six Apart, where I've worked for nearly 3 years. We were working on Comet, which eventually turned into Vox.
Last year I was also a part-time graduate student in the Visual Communication program at SFSU. Since then I have dropped out of that program because it became too difficult to work full-time and go to school, and I just wasn't getting anything out of the program at SFSU.
This year I have some plans in the works for some changes in my life, which I'll announce in the next few weeks! And no, I'm not pregnant or quitting my job!
I'll leave you with a link to a post from last year where I tried to get people to answer my personal Question of the Day.
What's one of your favorite quotes?
Submitted by Georgie-boy.
From my favorite photographer, Diane Arbus:
"Most people go through life dreading they'll have a
traumatic experience. Freaks were born with their trauma. They've
already passed their test in life. They're aristocrats."
"The world can only be grasped by action, not by contemplation. The hand is the cutting edge of the mind."
What was your favorite game to play at recess in grade school?
Submitted by Elisheva Chana.
OMG recess -- the absolute best part of the school day! My friends and I played so many different games: hopscotch, basketball, baseball, smoking candy cigarettes (it was the 70s!), four square, and kickball. My favorite would have to be dodgeball because you were allowed to throw balls at your annoying classmates and maybe hurt a few of them (temporarily of course). Yes, I was a not-so-nice child at times. :)
On a side note, I would kill to have hair like this again.
How have people mispronounced your name? How is it supposed to sound?
Submitted by Lorie.
People always mispronounce my first name, including my own relatives! For some odd reason, lots of my relatives call my Lily, instead of Lilia. L-I-L-I-A. Whatever, they're from another country (Chile) so I'll let it slide. My mother should have corrected them when I was little and we wouldn't have this little problem.
In addition to Lily, I have been called Lil, Lilith, Lila, and Lilya (sooo Russian!). Dirty Jase calls me Lilz which is hilarious.
My maiden name was Chambers, and people never had problems with that. Now that my last name is Ahner, people can't seem to pronounce my first and last names. I always dread the first day of class when most professors butcher my name during roll call. However, I have noticed that the most educated professors seem to have no problems at all pronouncing my name because they can READ!
Ahner is pronounced Ah-ner, like honor. Not Ay-ner. That's the worst! Ugh! At least Ray can feel my pain!
How are you ringing in the New Year tonight?
Tonight Ray and I are ringing in the new year by going to Anon Salon's Sea of Dreams party which is conveniently located 3 blocks away from us, yay! Tickets are a little pricey, but this seems to be the best thing going in SF tonight.
Here's a nice little moment from the Sea of Dreams in 2001. Ray and I were inside a jellyfish sculpture!
In honor of Vox's launch tomorrow, what's your favorite feature or aspect of Vox?
Okay, I'm a bit biased because I work on Vox, but my absoutely favorite aspect of Vox has to be the wonderful people that I have "met" through Vox. There's too many to name, so just take a look at my Neighborhood to check out some of the fascinating people sharing stories about their lives, friends, and family.
Although I have been blogging since 1999 over at lilia.com, I blogged too infrequently to ever build an audience, and my real life friends never took an interest in my old blog. Since I started blogging on Vox, I have felt a real sense of community that was lacking before. Also, it's just soooooo easy to blog here: adding photos, video, audio, books and collections is a snap, and I don't need to fuss with HTML and CSS. I can change my Vox theme to suit my mood since we now have over 165 themes!
I truly appreciate anyone who reads my Vox, and sincerely wanted to thank you all for being such great people!
What was the last wedding you went to? Were you in the wedding?
Our friends, Eric & Megan, were married in a Buddhist ceremony last year at the beautiful Marin Art & Garden Center. Of course, the bride and groom were stunning, and we had the best time at their reception. I had so much fun shooting the dance floor tomfoolery that Ray had to drag me home. Who would want to leave when you'd miss out seeing this:
